Volunteer Grandparents for D38 Students

SENIOR CITIZENS, OUR COMMUNITY NEEDS YOU AND YOUR SPECIAL GIFTS OF WISDOM AND EXPERIENCE!!

The Lewis-Palmer Community Schools Program so appreciates your interest in volunteering with our schools! We have been working hard to develop our Volunteer Program to serve our students and our community in an efficient and meaningful way... thanks to you. We are ready to take the next step! Here is an area of need that might be just what you're looking for!

I Witness Program

Lewis-Palmer School District is looking for senior citizens and other volunteers who would like to share their knowledge of history with students in a discussion series called "I Witness History". Adults with first-hand knowledge of historical, cultural, and social issues of the past are encouraged to submit their interest areas to the District. They’ll later be included in discussions with students about those turning points in our history.
Examples of discussion areas that are part of student studies include but are not limited to:

  • The Great Depression
  • World War II
  • Korean War
  • Civil Rights Movement
  • Tri-Lakes Region History

Occasionally a teacher has a need for specialists to come talk to the students about specific topics related to various career paths and experiences.
Volunteers do not lead a class; they just answer student questions and offer a unique perspective from personal experience. If you would like to share your experiences to educate our students, whether it be perspectives on historical events or description of career paths, please contact Lisa at 785-4228.

Would you like to be a "Building Helper?"
Help out with simple office work in an elementary school! Much work needs to be done, and with the very tight school budgets, volunteers are appreciated more than ever! This opportunity would include going to a specific school and helping out with easy projects.

If you are interested, please call Lisa at 785-4228 or Maria at 785-4224.

The Tri-Lakes Health Advocacy Partnership Senior Citizen Program receives many benefits through the generosity of School District 38, including the location where we have our Wednesday lunches, buses and drivers for our day trips, and the facility for our Senior Center at Lewis Palmer High School.
